Scharbeutz – Nice, That You Are Here

Scharbeutz, the bay of Lübeck, is a popular beach resort in North Germany as a counterpart to Travemünde. Get to know more about this place below.

Scharbeutz in the north, Travemünde, which you have read about on this blog back in 2017 here, on the south. Both belong to the capital of Schleswig-Holstein, Lübeck – read about it once again here. Whether there are teams divided into who prefers which of these places as it is mostly this way when you have two varieties of basically one and the same thing? I cannot tell. We in Germany (especially in the north as this is our home advantage – apart from Rostock in the east) are happy to have a beach close-by at all. This spares us to feel the need to travel abroad in order to get to enjoy this benefit which you think of when thinking of countries like Spain, Italy or the French Riviera (talking for European countries). Therefore to me both seem and are worth visiting and popular.

Travemünde is a place I used to visit a lot with my parental family when I was a kid. Scharbeutz however is attractive, luxury and classy which still gives you that kind of rich and beautiful feeling. In the following I am going to dive deeper into this place with and for you.

Scharbeutz – The German Beachside

“It took 13 beaches to find one empty”, Lana Del Rey, one of my style-idols once sang, well, it does take approximately 40 minutes by foot walking from the welcoming end of the beach to the end where you can already see Travemünde from. What catches your eyes? Beaches, beaches and more beaches and (ice) cafes or rather bars, some (souvenir) shops and some splish-splash-fun for kids. Already by daytime under the sunlight the cafes and restaurants that hinted to contain clubs or nightlife flair seemed very top-flight to me but other than one would think not at all with arrogant waiters or rather waitresses but moreover children-friendly staff as well as fellow guests. This impression made me conclude to consider Scharbeutz as some kind of Cannes-Croisette of Northern Germany.

The Beach 365 Days a Year

If you want to make your birthday special in summer (on a sunny day to emphasize this phenomenon for at least Northern Germany) or show your guests from abroad around (on top) then Scharbeutz is definitely a destination to go. Not that we would not have more beaches around here in the north of Germany (Travemünde, Sylt, Rügen et cetera…) but very close by Hamburg this is my daytrip-suggestion. We here in Hamburg specifically however are proud of our very close luxurious beaches all over the year and would not even mind to pay them a visit with woolly hat, a scarf and our warmest winter coat.
Insider info: it is quite common for people of Hamburg having a second domicile or holiday flat at either Travemünde, Scharbeutz or Sylt which makes the visit easier. You can either reach it easily by car or regional trains.
