Upper-Eastside Chic #2: Bouclé – Causa Princess Kate

Hello my beautiful people,

part two of the upper eastside chic delivers us the all time classic bouclé. Check out how to wear the “Chanel cloth” this season and discover more trends.

Christmas 2023 was the last official public event Princess Catherine of Wales also known by her citizen name Kate Middleton attended to with her family. Shortly afterwards, in mid-January, the Kensington Palace published an official letter via Instagram (@princeandprincessofwales), the official platform for the royal couple Prince William and Princess Kate to directly communicate with public. In the letter it was stated that the Princess is going to undergo an abdominal surgery and not attend public events until Easter following the process of healing and recovering. At the end of that month the Palace confirmed that the Princess arrived home again from the clinic continuing her recovery at home. At this point I would like to make three remarks:

  1. Easter 2024 is dated March 30th to April 1st,
  2. you recover better at home where you are surrounded by your loved ones between your comfortable trusted four walls and
  3. hospitals (I suppose also in England) are running to capacity which is why it makes sense to rather go home early if you may.

Under these circumstances it was not left unnoticed that nothing was published for her 42nd birthday which is on early January.

Whether it was the official announcement of her father-in-law King Charles III having cancer was the reason why people as well as media did not leave the their most popular member of the British alone and have started to speculate about her being, the surgery and the backgrounds turning it into a total mystery up to the point to spread rumors about her passing we cannot tell. The only connection there is is that King Charles also had a surgery ahead of his daughter-in-law. The rumors and speculations were heated by a photo published of the Princess surrounded by her three children George, Charlotte and Louis on occasion of the British mother’s day on March 10th. The reason for that was that Princess Catherine who likes to try out her skills as hobby-photographer as well as photo editor clearly retouched the photo and caused a worldwide journalistic scandal which made the haunt for her heavier.

Finally twelve days later Princess Catherine published a video message opening up about her health-state, her cancer sickness as well as her chemo-therapy once again asking the public to remain calm towards her as it is already a hard time for her and her family including three little children who still need to process the whole state and an exhausted husband.

I am not a speaker of the Princess in any way. But as a mother of two little children with a very supportive husband I would like to raise my voice on this whole topic. Royals seem to live it up. Monarchy is a disputed topic in times of crisis and social as well as economical insecurity. Therefore you may of course have expectations on royals to “work” for this money. In my opinion Princess Kate did not necessarily have to open up about her personal state. It does not matter if she is a public person or not. In the end she is a human being who is also graded introverted on top. This step towards public rather seems like a pressure by society which is a real pity! The Princess announced that she has health matters and therefore will be out of public until Easter which corresponds to issue a medical certificate towards your employer and that should have been it. Instead people are even more heated up about this announce instead of respecting her wish and the favor she asked for to calm down. That is the most pitiful thing about this whole situation.

How to wear… The Bouclé Trend

If there is a trend the whole world of fashion agrees on it is bouclé. I had taken a look into many different fashion magazines and it was funny how all of them declared this classic cloth established by the maison Chanel a celebrated the it-piece of the season. But considering that so many papers write about it you can call the bouclé-cloth THE trend-piece of the season. Furthermore all of them agree on the way how to wear bouclé in 2024: With jeans and pointed pumps, the latter with a high pencil heel.

Trend: Checked Blazer

If you are looking for checked blazers there are two options: Flannel or cockscomb-pattern. The closely connected to the runner-up trend bouclé. And also the other way round you hardly can imagine bouclé without a kind of checked pattern. No surprise this trend was taken up as well.

Trend: Oversized Coat

Pointed meets extra-large: The upper eastside spirit, that started with a maxi-dress here, lives on extravagance catching the eye. It is like fashion is the mission of this society therefore uncomfortably exquisite fashion is on the daily agenda. Fashion journalists have detected this to be achieved with an extra portion of glamour such as oversized coats (ideally in bouclé) that also long enough to reach your knees and meet your as elegant as they are uncomfortable high-heels. This teamwork is a real highlight to be captured by every camera.

“(…) they are in fact worthy to meet a classic such as Chanel.”

Accessory of the Month: Sunglasses with Frames and Glitter

If it was Blair Waldorf, the mother of alice bands, it would have probably been the headpiece matching the upper eastside chic. But the bouclé trend is not only dominating the series of this trend. It can furthermore stand and shine alone as single trend. And as this cloth or item has been beyond a trend a classic for a long time it needs a worthy and as classy accessory as partner. Therefore I have chosen classy Olsen-twins-style sunglasses in a rather square shape with bold black frames and a glittery silver framework. The Olsen Twins known as the former actresses Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen known from the 80s/90s series Full House have proven that they do belong to the fashion icons of our time. While in their teenage days they were known for their vintage style the bosses of their own fashion empire are the first ones to look at when it comes to minimalism. So they are in fact worthy to meet a classic such as Chanel.
