Easter Nail-Art: How I Processed Death

Hello my dear readership,

Easter in our culture is red therefore I also chose this color for my Easter nail-art. But how when my rule is to not wear red nails? See the solution here.

It is Easter 2024. The first Easter after this horrible incident happened which I told you about here. Death. A natural one. Let keep it this way. I mean, honestly, we can get sick and heal again, we can lose something and find it again, we can fight and we can make up again and we can fix things if they break, you can say goodbye and still hear from each other a while later again but death is one of these very few things that you cannot bring back never ever again. Once it happens the person gone with it is gone for ever from this world. And unlike all other things death is not a matter of choice. It happens recklessly with no warning and often it comes when you are not prepared for it. It is true that when you are bearing pain or a disease such as cancer or once you grow very old death can often come as release but still it is a hurtful experience, for those who are left as well as for those who pass.

I think that in moments like these the meaning of Easter grows even bigger than it already is: For us Orthodox Christians Easter is the most important of all celebrations there are. Colorful eggs, national holidays along more days, spring and warmth touching the cities and town. I understand why people enjoy Easter as much as they do but connected with what is happening in spring Easter creates the perfect connection as celebration of spring. After the winter-period when plants and also insects are dying, birds are flying away and other animals are hiding into their hibernation it happens in spring that everything comes into new life where it left before. This is also what the story of Easter is teaching us: on Good Friday Jesus Christ, the holy son of God, sacrificed himself for the sins of the whole humanity. The Good Friday marks the endless forgiveness that is given by God if we feel guilt for our sins. And after one night and one day from Saturday to Sunday Jesus Christ had risen from death. This is how Easter came to life to be celebrated and ever since us Orthodox Christians believe in the rebirth. So does it help me to process the death of a beloved person to believe that they will be reborn in another person.
By the way: The eggs are painted red or rather burgundy by us because it is said that the Roman King was holding an egg in his hand when he received the news of Jesus’ rising which turned red from the anger that he felt.

Having this in mind: Happy Easter

Nails by Hanny Beautiful Nails

With my Easter Nail-Art 2024 I decided to choose a new shape for my nails. Do not laugh but my inspiration for that was Ava Max in her music video for the song “The Motto” featuring Tiësto. I loved her chill, combined with her coolness and controlled chaos especially in the beginning of the clip. Also I grew a little bit tired on this oval form that looked like nothing for me not even because I had the amount of years in mind that I had them but rather that in means of fashion I always seemed to keep it practical, functional and easy with less creativity. Of course I was concerned about how I would be dealing with such nails in everyday life running a household but I realized that is goes just as normal as before. However I already liked this style of nails long before Ava Max on Jessica Alba in her role as Susan Storm in the first Fantastic Four movie.

Huge thanks to Hanny Beautiful Nails for the amazing nail art. Book your appointment with them here.

Love, Johanna
