Upper-Eastside-Chic #1: Maxi-Dress – A Better Version Of Yourself

Hello Upper Eastsiders,

Gossip Girl may have been over since 2012 but its fashionable legacy lives on. Check out the series of the upper eastside chic here starting with the maxi-dress.

I am living my life in trial and error and feel like I am taking a stock daily: What has happened? What is going good? What is going bad? What can I improve? What is going beyond my control? What do I need to do today? How can I reach a level of acceptance?
It is questions like these I keep myself busy with every day. Personally I feel like my brain is a machine that is working nonstop. Do you think this can come from my academical background where I was asked to question everything? Maybe this was just a good base to start with but in fact I always try to be the best version of myself. I know that I do mistakes and I think there is hardly a day when I do not think that in some situations I could have generally reacted better. Or how did a very dear photographer once say? “Oh, I cannot wait to make more mistakes just to learn from them.”, that is, of course, not supposed to mean that you should take aim to make mistakes but life is a process.

It is human to make mistakes and, personally, I do not only live according to “If you can do it better then do it better” but also I always want to become a better version, I already want to say the best version of myself. I know that there is always space to make it better. When I develop myself further I orient myself not only to my relationship but also my personal point of view watching others and learning from them. Everything and everyone is inspirational and everyone is worth to be learned from in their very own way. Ok, let us say almost everyone, considering people I addressed in my article about hate here. And if you think there is no point or for you to analyse and reconsider then think again. Everyone can improve not only themselves but also their surrounding. Personally, I would say that this way of living gives me a lot of support to not fall into a misery even in tough times. It is about understand yourself better, the people around you and make the best of every situation, especially since they are not going to brought back. Not only I need to improve constantly but also you do.

Trend: Maxi-Dress

From Girls’ Club’s Regina George’s “You can’t sit with us.” to Gossip Girl’s Blair Waldorf’s “The most important parties to attend are the ones you aren’t invited to”. While the movie from 2003 starring Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams had dictated us only one particular style to go according to the Upper Eastside chic from Gossip Girl offers us a large variety of styles to identify with in the big city life that goes beyond the US-American high-school-walls. From party Serena van der Woodsen to the sophisticated Blair Waldorf up to “Gothic Barbie” Jenny Humphrey and do not forget about the elder generations of these style-icons. One style is for instance a clinging maxi-dress with in soft shades and layers to create a mix’n’match-look. You can get this effect very well with a transparent dress and a petticoat. To create the absolute Upper Eastside chic all you need is uncomfortable seeming and luxurious accessories to make you feel like a celebrity.
